“Usakhelauri” is a naturally semi-sweet red wine produced from Georgian specie of grapes of the same name, found only in two villages of Lechkhumi region (west Georgia): Okureshi and Zubi. Usakhelauri is a corpulent wine of dark ruby color, distinguished by enchanting aroma and unique taste, characteristic solely of this specie, with flavor of fruit (mostly blackberry, wild berries, cherry, red sweet cherry), chocolate and cake. It is rich in tannin, and is characterized by long time aftertaste.
We aim to provide our customers with the primary, unique taste of Usakhelauri; therefore, our wine is unfiltered and does not undergo any chemical processing.
Usakhelauri is a grape specie found only in two villages of Lechkhumi region: Okureshi and Zubi.
The grapes are characterized by high acidity and sweetness, which is a precondition for obtaining best quality naturally semi-sweet wine. The vine yields first full harvest after 6-7 years from planting. Due to the mountainous landscape of Lechkhumi, maintenance of this vine specie is related to hard manual labor. Besides, this specie is characterized by low-yield. For these reasons, in the 70s of the past century serial production of Usakhelauri stopped, and in the 80s this unique vine specie became endangered. Only several local households managed to retain vineyards of this rare specie.
In 2001 “Usakhelauri Vineyards” company started to plant this unique grape specie in its main area of spreading (Okureshi village). The vineyards are planted on the areas of South projection only. This ensures the highest quality of grapes and wine. The company produces wine from grapes grown in its own vineyards and takes special care of quality from the very root. After an interval of forty years, serial production of Usakhelauri was renewed in 2009.
Our company is proud to be the first enterprise to have maintained this unique specie of grape.
