Matarromera Crianza -2012

2012: Ribera del Duero had one of its typical harsh winters of the Castilian plains, with temperatures in February below –10 ˚C. The start of spring was very cool during budding, causing it to be delayed, only for plant growth to be accelerated subsequently owing to copious rainfall in April and the strong heat of May.

The Wine:
Matarromera Crianza is Matarromera’s outstanding wine. It is tangible evidence of the respect for the fruit-wood balance that characterises the Bodega. Matarromera Crianza 2012 was aged for 12 months in 225-litre American oak barrels from US forests in the Appalachian Mountains. They are fine-grained and medium-charred barrels. During the aging process the wine remains in controlled-humidity rooms with barely any light. The wine is carefully monitored during aging and half-way through it is racked before being once more returned to barrels until the end of aging.

100%Tempranillo with 12 months in oak barrels and another 10 months in bottles. Very rich cherry-red colour with abundant violet hues around the edge. Intense with great complexity, in which powerful aromas of very ripe black fruit coexist in harmony with spicy scents of new wood and hardwood. A flavourful wine, generous as it crosses the palate and with a powerful and long finish. Possesses an elegance and intensity befitting the best of Ribera de Duero.
