Sa Forana 2013

Sa Forana Menorca 2013 has its birthplace in the windy, peaceful island of Menorca. This red wine was crafted by the Celler Solano de Menorca, a company started in 2000 by the Solano Molins Family.

That year, the family decided to buy a couple of hectares 3 kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. In 2003, they planted their first vines in rugged, rocky soils oriented to the south.
This Menorcan red is made from a blend of 4 varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo), Syrah and Merlot.

The grapes were manually harvested and selected at the vineyard. Then each grape variety was separately vinified in stainless steel tanks. When the process was completed, the wine was aged for 6 months in American oak barrels.

This wine, that bears the Illa de Menorca label, will evolve nicely in the bottle for some years.
Production of only 3,250 bottles.

APPEARANCE
Bright, intense, high cherry-coloured robe with claret tinges.

NOSE
Nice aromatic expression that shows notes of strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants, and some cranberries and blackberries combined with notes of toast and spices. Wide panoply of aromatic herbs and some notions of underbush, along with a dash of menthol and aniseed.

PALATE
Over a mineral background, Sa Forana Menorca 2013 displays clear notes of red fruit, welldefined notes of spices and balsam and a salty touch. Remarkable balance, very good acidity and lively tannins. Long finish with some smoky remembrances.

PERSONAL OPINION
Sa Forana Menorca 2013 is a surprising Balearic red that will pair well with beef recipes.
