Parcela 15 - Millahue de Apalta Santa Cruz CHILE

Telefon: +56 222 484 805

Deep ruby red with violet tones. The nose impresses with its potent black and ripe red fruit, caramel, jam, blackberry juice, yogurt, coffee, mocha, and an evident contribution of French oak that adapts very well to its nicely rounded, well-balanced palate with imperceptible tannins, tremendous volume, and long finish.

Harvest Date: April 26–May 28
Harvest Report: The 2011–2012 season can be considered a normal season with respect to budbreak, flowering, and fruit set. Rainfall was concentrated in the winter, and no spring frosts were recorded, which is very important for the success of quality bunch formation. Unlike the previous summer, no rain fell, nor were there any cold days, and therefore the ripening period developed normally. There were, however, unusually high temperatures in February and March, which resulted in a rapid increase in sugar levels in the grapes, although it did not significantly change the harvest date. The grapes harvested were of very good quality with normal-weight bunches, and concentrated grapes in good health.

The Carmenère vineyards destined for our Limited Selection wine are located in the Apalta and Marchigüe sectors of the Colchagua Valley.
Apalta is very heterogeneous with zones that are under the influence of the river and others influenced by alluvial action and material that breaks off from high in the mountains. The soils are generally deep in the flat areas and shallower at the foot the mountain and in higher areas. The Carmenère vineyards are preferably planted in flat zones where the soil is deeper and has moderate moisture retention. Marchigüe is generally flatter with low hills and moderate slopes. Its soils are shallow—in some cases no more than 60 cm—with moderate clay content and high capacity for water retention. The vineyards are located in the flat zones.
Our Carmenère vineyards are planted to a density of 5,555 plants/hectare (2,250 plants/acre) and double guyot managed for yields of approximately 9,000 kg/hectare (3.6 tons/acre). The leaves closest to the bunches are vigorously pulled in early January to leave the fruit completely exposed, which enables the grapes to ripen evenly and reduce the pyrazine content that is characteristics of the variety.
