Telefon: +56 222 484 805

Very lively violet-red in color. The predominately fruity nose recalls a mixture of ripe red and black berries, bakery aromas, and sweet spices, with a floral note on the backdrop. The oak is a very good complement and contributes spicy notes, tobacco leaf, fresh coffee, and a sweet sensation. The palate is very smooth, and well balanced, and the well-rounded tannins lend a pleasing sense of balance and lead to a long finish.

The vineyards that produce the grapes for our Montes Twins are located in Apalta and Marchigüe, two very representative zones of the Colchagua Valley. Apalta is very heterogeneous, with zones that are influenced by the Tinguiririca River and others that resulted from mudslides and the breaking off of material from high above in the mountains. The soils tend to be deep on the plain and thinner at the foot of the mountain and higher. In the case of the Cabernet Sauvignon, the plantations are located at the foot of the mountain, with slopes that are not very pronounced, yet have thin soils with highly variable textures. The Malbec also comes from vineyards in areas with moderate slopes. Marchigüe is flatter and has lower hills with moderate slopes. Its soils are shallow—in some cases no more than 60 cm, with moderate clay content and a high capacity for water retention. Our vineyards are planted to a density of 5,555 plants/hectare (2,250 plants/acre) and are double guyot trained for yields of approximately 9,000 kg/ha (3.6 ton/acre).

Cabernet Sauvignon harvest period: March 18–May 25. Malbec harvest period: April 12–May 16. Harvest Report: The weather during the 2012–2013 season included a cooler-than-normal spring that delayed the onset of budbreak and flowering with respect to the previous season. December was rather cold as well and also presented precipitation in the central zone that resulted in vigorous elongation of the berries, which in turn resulted in bunches that tended to be heavier. January was also cold and delayed the onset of veraison. Precipitation was recorded throughout the entire ripening period, which put the quality of the most sensitive varieties at risk. Our Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec resisted very well and reached harvest in optimal condition with controlled loads and loose bunches that hung freely from the vines, which helps prevent some diseases that can occur in the presence of free water. February had some unusual spikes in temperature, which ultimately caused the grapes to ripen about the same time they did in 2012.
